Basecamp Book Club (Matilda by Roald Daul)

We love books and want to help promote a love for reading and a culture for book clubs starting at a young age. We are going to trial starting a book club here at Community at Basecamp! We will begin with a familiar favorite, Matilda by Roald Dahl to see if we have any interest!

This book club will meet four Thurdays Feb. 16, Feb. 23, March 2, and March 9th from 3:30-5pm. This will be a drop off. This first go round will be for grades 3-7th. Each week we after our planned chapter readings, our discussions will be guided by the children’s reading journals they will be encouraged to keep while reading the novel. These journals can have the reader’s thoughts, favorite quotes, words they’d like to discuss, or even pictures they’ve drawn! These are their own creative thought journals. We will also prepare and enjoy together a snack/light dinner each week. (Because what is a book club without food and fancy drinks!?) Our last meet up, March 9th, we will celebrate by making our own personal pizzas and watching the movie (or new musical) Matilda!

While this is a free event, weekly participation is strongly encouraged so that we can really cultivate what a book club really is…friendship, intention, sharing, great discussions over meals, and community. You will need to purchase the book on your own before our first meet up along with a reading journal (this can be a simple small blank sketch book that can be purchased at Five and Below or any craft store for cheap) and I will send out our scheduled readings and food menu each week. Please email me with any allergies. We will keep this group at 10 participants for great conversation and fellowship. Sign up HERE .

Happy reading!
